State study predicts new jobs, high pay
More than one-third of the more than 575,000 new jobs that are forecast to be created in Illinois by 2012 will be high-wage jobs, paying more than $56,000 a year, according to a study to be released today. But current job patterns show the state lost nearly 400,000 jobs between 2002 and 2005, the study authors said.
The study was conducted by Northern Illinois University as part of a joint project between NIU's Office of Social Policy Research and Regional Development Institute and the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability. Researchers used Illinois Department of Employment Security forecast data.
Dealerships can take track for a test-drive
The Naperville Test Track, built by local auto dealers and the city, is scheduled to open in the first week of October.
The track is on about 9 acres of city-owned land along Jefferson Avenue, just west of Ogden Avenue near most of the city's auto dealerships along Ogden and Aurora avenues.
Joel Weinberger, owner of Continental Acura and Audi and chairman of the Naperville Test Track Association, said he expects the facility will draw customers.
A dozen dealerships are members of the test track association and will share in the track's maintenance, estimated to be $60,000 a year. Each dealership will pay a $5,000 association fee that will fund the maintenance work.
