Study says more spending equals better pupils

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Education funding reform advocates say a new study shows students perform better academically in districts that spend more money per pupil.

The study by the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability found that increased school funding leads to higher scores on the Illinois Standards Achievement Test.

The findings were discussed at a forum Thursday. Participants included Illinois State Senator James Meeks, who led a boycott of Chicago Public Schools to protest funding disparities between school districts.

There is a problem here in Illinois with school funding, and it has to be fixed. Everybody has to get involved -- the mayor, the governor, aldermen, state representatives, state legislators," Meeks said.

Meeks says he's planning another protest at the Cubs' first home playoff game.
