A Forum on the Illinois School Funding Reform Act of 2014
Event Date and Time:
November 11, 2014 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm
In the midst of Illinois’s ongoing struggle to resolve its budgetary and pension crises, the challenge of providing support for our state’s public education system has gained even greater urgency. The current formula used by Illinois to distribute funding to school districts has been criticized as inadequate and regressive.
Following a January 2014 report from the Senate Education Funding Advisory Committee, State Senator Andy Manar introduced the Illinois School Funding Reform Act (SB 16), which passed the Senate prior to adjournment of the regular session and is now pending in the Illinois House. In this context, the Union League Club of Chicago’s (ULCC) Public Affairs Subcommittee on Education and Advance Illinois invite you to attend an forum on November 11 to examine the merits of this important legislation, which is intended to improve the method by which Illinois allocates funds to public schools.
The forum will be moderated by Linda Lenz, Publisher of Catalyst Magazine. Featured speakers include:
- Andrea Zopp, Pres. & CEO, Chicago Urban League
- Robin Steans, Exec. Director, Advance Illinois
- State Senator Daniel Biss (D-Evanston)
- Ralph Martire, Exec. Director, Center for Tax and Budget Accountability
- Dr. Diane Rutledge, Exec. Director, Large Unit District Association (LUDA)
- Juan Salgado, Instituto del Progreso Latino
Our program begins at 4:00 p.m. and will adjourn by 6:00 p.m.; complimentary refreshments will be served. Please note: although this event is offered on a complimentary basis, advance registration is required and space is limited.
