To help local taxpayers understand state tax exemptions and credits and learn ways to potentially save more of what they earn this tax season, state Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, will host an income tax informational seminar at 6:30 p.m.

How can Illinois get itself back on the road to long-term fiscal stability? The State Journal-Register is sponsoring "Sounding the Alarm: The Road Ahead," a forum that examines the policy questions confronting the General Assembly and Gov. Bruce Rauner.  

Ralph Martire, executive director of the Center for Tax and Budget Accountability, and Ted Dabrowski, vice president of policy for the Illinois Policy Institute, will discuss the state's current budget impasse and their thoughts on the long-term changes needed. 

The event is free and open to the public
